… Did I shatter a course record? No
…. Did I place in the top 25% for my age group? No way
… Did I “wow” any of the spectators with my performance? Definitely not
Having kids has taught me (amongst other things) that your time is what you make of it and the saying “there’s no such thing as not having time, just not prioritizing something” is true. I needed to get in better shape and start exercising more, so what better way than to put the pressure of looking like an idiot in front of hundreds of people to motivate me to train?
I signed up with Dana who started off the weekend as my wife’s brother’s girlfriend and after a proposal, become my sister in-law-in-law!
The course was beautiful and I bumped into Christine and Sonal who are coworkers, we ended up running quite a bit of the race together.
Overall, I am very satisfied with it- this may sound like “everyone gets a participation trophy” (….which we did), but it really was all about the training, getting back into the rhythm of running for me rather than a race time.
