Let’s remodel a kitchen!

One thing Maureen and I wanted to do since buying the house at 519 Taylor Avenue was remodel the kitchen, which needed it pretty badly. With the COVID-19 lockdown well underway as well as the impending baby on the way, there was no better time than the present to make it happen.

It was a LOT of weekends, late nights but as a team we were able to knock it out and was an incredibly gratifying project, both in terms of proving what I was capable of but also seeing Maureen in action.

The before pictures. Kitchen was pretty rough. Don’t worry- this was a little bit into Demo, we aren’t that messy.

The old plumbing was galvanized steel. You can see how much internal gunk had built up so I re-plumbed some of it under the house with new plastic. MUCH better water pressure!
We turned a nook near the rear wall into a utility closet. After sheetrocking, I built a wall and we hung some sliding doors. Not pictured here is the shelving I built inside.
Testing every color of blue there is. We ended up going with the 2018 “color of the year” in what we thought was a daring, original move…
